More than 1,000 pounds collected during National Drug Take Back Day

NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. (WRDW) -- More than 1,000 pounds of unwanted prescription drugs were dropped off in the CSRA as a part of this year's National Drug Take Back Day.

According to the Drug Enforcement Administration, the rates for drug abuse in the U.S. are alarmingly high. That's also the same for accidental poisonings and overdoses.

Last October, Americans turned over 324 tons of prescription drugs.

Confirmed by each department:

  • North Augusta Department of Public Safety: 505 pounds collected
  • Aiken Department of Public Safety: 320 pounds collected
  • Richmond County Sheriff's Office: 285 pounds collected
