AIKEN, SC (WRDW) -- The report of the missing domesticated mountain lion on Sunday was a hoax, according to the Aiken Department of Public Safety,

Earlier on Sunday, officers responded to Bob's Aquarium Pets and were told a pet mountain lion was missing. According to reports, Billy Lungford told officers the animal was black, weighed 100 pounds and three feet tall. He also told them the pet was de-clawed and was wearing a dog harness.

In the officer's report, Lungford stated the mountain lion was last seen 7 p.m. Saturday night and was left to wander around the backroom of the building. Officers said they saw were a pipe was used as a wedge to pry the metal sheet back exposing the inside of the building.

Investigators now say the entire story was fabricated. They say the search has turned into a criminal investigation into filing a false police report.
