CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- Authorities say one boater is dead and a second hospitalized after a weekend fishing trip in Charleston County.
The Coast Guard said the boaters were found on high ground near the north end of the Edisto River around 7 a.m. Monday after leaving on a fishing trip from Edisto Island on Saturday.
The Coast Guard and other agencies began searching Sunday when the boat did not return.
The Coast Guard identified the missing as 29-year-old Michael Royston and 33-year-old Amy Claytor and initially reported Royston was fine and Claytor had been taken to the hospital.
But the Charleston County Sheriff's Department later reported a male was dead at the scene. The state Department of Natural Resources will investigate.
