EVANS, Ga. (WRDW) -- There's more patriotism on days like today for soldiers in Augusta. Thunder Over Augusta rolled into town, honoring all of those who served in the military who live in the area.

"It's a good event, it's a good way for us to get out in the community," said Joseph Texidor, a soldier in the U.S. Army.

And a better way for the community to come out and give thanks to soldiers like himself.

"Just the awe that we get and the thank-yous I've gotten today, are just numerous," he said.

He's been serving eight years, and the opportunity to show off what he does and the equipment he uses makes it an even better experience.

Kids and adults both got hands on experience with what it's like being in the military.

"It's good that everyone gets to put their hands on it, that's key, so it's just education for the community," he said.

It's a first for Nathan Thomas and his friends.

"You get to ride in the jeeps," Thomas said.

And when he got there, the questions starting coming.

"We've been asking what they do and how they work and we've just been asking how they use all of their equipment and if it's hard being in the military," he said.

News 12 spoke to John Rutt, an Army vet who came out with his family.

"As a veteran, I'm very happy and very appreciative of the support that we get from the Augusta community," Rutt said.

He retired to Augusta, where the community has opened up its arms.

"This community really puts it on for their veterans, and we really appreciate it," he said.

And with an event like Thunder Over Augusta, it's a perfect way to bring the military and community together.

"The community is thanking us and celebrating Armed Forces Day, and we're also thanking the community for everything they do for us," Rutt said.
