AUGUSTA, Ga. -- On the same day that community members honored the life of a fallen officer in Aiken, friends and family in Augusta gathered to remember another victim from Saturday's shooting.

Cayce Vice was found shot and killed in her apartment Saturday morning.

Family and friends shared memories and tears at Cayce's memorial service as they celebrated a life that was cut short.

That service was held Tuesday night at Thomas Poteet and Sons funeral home.

Nicole Jackson was a friend and co-worker of Cayce's.

"Cayce was a very lovely person, she's nice, humble, she's soft spoken, she was a good person," she said. "For her life to get cut short like that, it's just devastating, and it hurts."

Cayce had just turned 21 last week, and friends say she was five weeks pregnant by Joshua Jones.

Jones was not only her boyfriend, but also her accused killer.

When Jackson heard the news Cayce had been killed, she says, "I was shocked because, it's Cayce, and she doesn't do anything to anybody. And then I was shocked to find out who did it. It was like, wow, it hit pretty close to home."

It hit close to home because Jackson actually grew up with Jones and says he used to be so nice.

"He was nice, quiet, always kept to himself. So the behavior that I'm seeing now is crazy because he was never like this growing up," she told News 12.

And Cayce hadn't been dating him very long.

"Not that long. Probably within a month or two," Jackson said.

But she can't think of a reason why Jones would take Cayce's life.

"I couldn't even get in his mind. We don't know what's wrong with him now. We just look at him on TV and just say, 'Wow,'" she said.

Earlier this week, Cayce's dad told News 12 that Jones was abusive to Cayce.

The message from her memorial service encouraged others in abusive relationships to seek help.

The minister who gave the message said,"If her life can save yours, there is a purpose."

"Women, if you are with a person that beats you, get away," Jackson said. "Because look what happened to one of my good friends. It started off like that and look what happened."

Friends and family are hoping Cayce's death can be a lesson for others.

"She will be truly missed. And she is truly loved. And it showed tonight with all the people that showed up. She had a lot of family and friends, and everybody loved her," Jackson said.

Cayce's friends will also be holding a candlelight vigil Wednesday night. It will begin at 6 p.m. at her apartment complex, The Greens at Washington.
