HEPHZIBAH, Ga. -- Richmond County deputies are investigating a gruesome death involving a mummified body.

Investigators were called to a home at 4279 James Drive around 1 p.m. Friday. When they arrived, they found 23-year-old Robin Adams' body. Deputies say he had been dead for so long that his body had started to mummify. Right now, it's not clear what caused his death. An autopsy is planned at the GBI Crime Lab.

During the investigation, the Sheriff's Office arrested 43-year-old Angela Mercer, Adams' mother, and 18-year-old Deaidra Motley, Adams' sister. Deputies say the pair had been going about their lives like normal, even though their loved one was dead in their home. Investigators arrested them and charged them with concealing the death of a person. Once the autopsy is complete, more charges could be added.

Investigators say Adams had a host of mental problems, causing him to have the mental capacity of an infant.
