BARNWELL COUNTY, S.C. (WRDW) -- The Barnwell Police Department is looking for a man who they say jumped out of his car during a traffic stop and ran away.
Barnwell Police Chief Todd Gantt says officers tried to stop the car near the intersection of Allen and Calhoun streets. When that happened, the man allegedly jumped out and ran, stripping off his shirt.
Authorities say nothing that was found in the car indicates he is dangerous. They are working to track down the purchase records for the car since it has paper tags.
The Police Department recommended lockdowns for Guinyard-Butler Middle School and Barnwell Primary, although they do not believe the man is near the schools.
The Barnwell County Sheriff’s Office personnel and K-9s are assisting with the search.
