AIKEN, S.C. (WRDW) -- The Aiken Department of Public Safety is investigating an assault and battery that happened early Friday morning.

Investigators say a young woman was walking from a downtown Aiken bar around 2:50 a.m. when she was struck in the head by a white male at the corner of Newberry Street and Park Avenue.

Due to the intensity of the strike, the victim says she's not sure what happened afterwards.

Investigators are actively watching surveillance and talking to witnesses about the incident.

The search is ongoing for the suspect, who is described as a white male between 25 and 35 years old who may have brown hair.
