HARLEM, Ga. (WRDW) -- A man told the Columbia County Sheriff's Office he "had sex with a 12-year-old and need[ed] to go to jail, according to a report.
A deputy responded to a home where Trevor Barnes, 40, said he wanted to turn himself in for having sex with a child, the report said. The man answered the door and told the deputy he wanted to put on underwear before turning himself in.
The deputy said he could smell alcohol on the man as he was changing. The report said when asked if he had been drinking the man responded "a lot" and that he was ready to leave.
Barnes told the deputy the victim was in the shower, but a dispatcher told him to tell her to get out, the report said.
The report said the man asked the deputy "[Do] you think they will give me twenty years for this?"
The deputy found the girl crying and had the girl and her mother transported to GRU for treatment and evaluation, the report said.
Barnes has been charged with aggravated child molestation.
