Tuesday, April 8th, 2014

North Augusta, SC (WRDW) - The victim has been identified as 21-year-old Dakota Cook. The alleged shooter is his wife 20-year-old Terry Cook. Police believe this is a domestic dispute turned deadly.

"I woke up and I heard sirens," said neighbor Jesse Williams.

A quiet Tuesday morning in this North Augusta apartment complex turned into a crime scene. Terry Cook is charged with murder, accused of shooting her husband Dakota Cook.

North Augusta Public Safety investigators say the children, ages 4 months, 1 year, 2 years, and 3 years old were all in the home at the time. The incident report says deputies entered the apartment after getting no response from knocking on the front door. The report states they found a child behind a couch who said she heard a loud noise upstairs.

"They shouldn't see that. why would you want kids to be exposed to that," said Williams.

The incident report says deputies yelled upstairs and a woman responded, "up here, he's still breathing." Deputies reported that she had blood on her right hand. The report states deputies found the victim still in bed with the covers up to his neck. Investigators noted he had what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the face.

One neighbor told us he isn't surprised by the violence and that this isn't the first time this neighborhood has seen crime.

"That's the life we're living in. I mean it's a rough area, and in the summer stuff happens," said Williams.

All four of those children are safe. They are in the custody of their grandparents.
