Man sentenced to 10 years in prison after robbery turned car chase

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- A man is going to jail in connection to a robbery turned car chase.

Charles Burnett, 32, admitted to fleeing and attempting to elude a police officer and reckless driving.

Columbia County deputies put out an alert on a person who stole a car and wallet in October 2012.

Burnett allegedly hit a mailbox at the Barton Village Community Center on Rome Way. Burnett faced traffic charges as well as armed robbery, theft, burglary and a weapons charge.

A judge sentenced Burnett to 10 years in prison and five years of probation.

Travis Whigham, 32, was taken to the Columbia County Detention Center after this incident and is being held without bond. He is charged with armed robbery, burglary and theft.
