Jerome Sullivan (WRDW-TV)
AIKEN, S.C. (WRDW) -- Driving down this quiet street, neighbors never would have expected what happened last night.
"It was a shock I mean its a quiet neighborhood nothing like that ever happens around here," said Mark Napier.
Aiken Public Safety arrived to the scene on Bennington Lane shortly after one in the morning and found 30-year-old Tamar Stewart shot to death. Neighbors say Stewart was the boyfriend of the woman living on Bennington Lane.
Officials said they quickly found and arrested 31-year-old Jerome Sullivan and charged him with murder.
Officials say they got a description of the suspect's vehicle over the radio. They found him driving down Whiskey Road which is very close to the scene of the crime. It took them just a few minutes and they had Sullivan in custody.
Officials say this is the result of a domestic dispute. Neighbors say they saw multiple police cars blocking the street not allowing anyone to leave their home while they try to put the pieces together.
"In the very beginning and infancy stages with us its still fresh so we're still trying to cover every angle to make sure we cover everything and properly relate everyone as it should be," Detective Jeremy Hembree said.
Those who live on Barrington Lane say things like this never happen in their neighborhood.
"It's mostly young married with young kids and retirees. Thats what this neighborhood is all about," Judy Sheppers said.
Neighbors still a little shell shocked but some say they still feel safe at home.
"It was kind of scary and a little weird but it was an isolated incident. It was just one of those things that happen. People do stupid things and unfortunately it was right down the street," said Napier.
Officials said they're still gathering information on what the motive is and how Sullivan was connected to the victim. The case is being investigated by Aiken Department of Public Safety and SLED.
