Man accused of stealing multiple cars from gas stations

A homeless man from Sylvania is now in the Richmond county jail.

RICHMOND COUNTY, Ga. (WRDW) -- A homeless man from Sylvania is now in the Richmond county jail.

He is accused of stealing at least three vehicles.

Richmond County investigators are charging 21-year-old Markeith Golphin with the crimes after an undercover sting at the two Circle K gas stations on Washington Road and I-20.

Deputies say they watched Golphin look into vehicles parked at gas pumps.

Deputies followed him up the road and they say when they tried to question him he ran away.

Golphin was arrested after a short foot chase.

Golphin was charged with three separate counts of Theft by Taking Motor Vehicle and a single count of Criminal Attempt Theft by Taking Motor Vehicle.
