AUGUSTA, Ga. -- A man was arrested at the Augusta Regional Airport on Thursday after allegedly trying to bring a pistol in his carry-on bag.

The man was arrested and the .380 pistol was taken into custody.

While this is the first firearm confiscated in Augusta this year, over 1,000 firearms have been found at TSA checkpoints nationwide. There were three firearms were found at Augusta Regional last year.

Bringing a firearm to a checkpoint results in a civil penalty from the TSA and potential criminal charges.
