AIKEN, S.C. (WRDW) - Deputies in Aiken County have taken a man into custody following an hour-long stand off.

The standoff started just after 11 a.m. Tuesday near the Sam's Club in Aiken, when Aiken County SWAT officers went to serve probate papers at the man's home.

Deputies say the suspect threw a makeshift flaming device at them, when they arrived.

Highway 1 had to be shutdown during an hour-long negotiation.

The man was taken into custody.

Deputies say the suspect's name will not be released, because he has a history of mental illness.
