AIKEN, S.C. -- A man allegedly tried to attack his father, strangle a female victim and held himself at knifepoint Monday night.

Officers were called to the scene after getting reports of a fight between a father and a son. When they got to the home on the 100 block of Poplar Place, a woman opened the door and said a man inside the house assaulted her.

She told officers the man, Aaron Kranenberg, was hiding in his bedroom, armed with a sword.

The female victim says she was in his bedroom watching a movie when they began to have a deep discussion. Kranenberg, who had been drinking, allegedly became upset and wouldn't let her out of the bedroom. When this happened, the victim screamed, and the suspect's father ran into the room.

This is when Kranenberg is said to have attacked his father. The suspect tried to strangle the female when she tried to help the father. She says Kranenberg punched her in the face several times. He allegedly forced her into the bedroom and locked the door until the Aiken Department of Public Safety arrived on scene.

When officers went inside the room, they say Kranenberg stepped out of a closet and held the blade to his throat. He would not drop the knife after officers asked him to do so.

Officers were eventually able to negotiate with the suspect and get him to drop the knife.

Kranenberg allegedly tried to stab himself in the stomach but officers were able to stop him.

He was taken to the hospital. Officers say a warrant will be issued for him later.

Officers later seized four swords, six knifes, a crossbow with 10 arrows and a set of sais.
