EVANS, Ga. (WRDW) -- Evans Towne Center Park is empty now, but during Masters week, it'll be packed with people.

Organizers gathered at the Lady Antebellum Amphitheater on Wednesday for the big announcement.

"We're here today to announce the launching of the first annual Championship Festival that we're going to hold here at Evans Town Center Park," said CEO of The Savor Society Jim Freudenberg.

It's a four-day festival starting on the Wednesday of Masters week. It'll include a family fun day and two nights of concerts. But the biggest announcement is who will be performing on the Lady A stage.

Get your singing voices ready, because the classic southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd is coming to Columbia County. They'll be the headlining act on Friday, April 12.

"I think everyone's going to be pretty excited," Brandie Salamon said.

"When you hear the name Lynyrd Skynyrd, of course you think about Sweet Home Alabama, so I'm thinking everybody likes Lynyrd Skynyrd," Ladonnia Waldrop said.

Commissioner Ron Cross says it will be great for the county.

"Lynyrd Skynyrd on Friday night is going to be big. He'll bring some people," he said.

The 2013 Masters will be a big year for Columbia County. With Rock Fore! Dough also happening at the park this year, now there will be an event here almost every night that week.

"This will be the after party or the after round place we hope in a number of years for the people coming to the Masters," Cross said.

"He's going to be like that Christmas song 'Zero to Eighty.' He's gonna bring in from teenage to young at heart," Waldrop said.

While organizers say the big name will help them put on a great first festival, they have high hopes for its future.

"I think this festival over the next two or three years will be something that will rival Super Bowl type festivals. That's what our goal is," Freudenberg said.

"Maybe we can be known for more than just golf," Salamon said.

Wednesday will be the free family fun day. Thursday night will be the benefit concert for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. They also hinted another big name will be here for that night. They said they'll announce that band in the next couple weeks.

Lynyrd Skynyrd will be playing on Friday, April 12, from 8:15 to 10 p.m. at Evans Towne Center Park. Tickets are $40 in advance or $55 at the door. Military discounts are available.
