COLUMBIA COUNTY, Ga. -- If you heard a loud sound Tuesday night in the Old Louisville Road area, you weren't alone.
Columbia County Emergency Management Agency Director Pam Tucker says several residents in the area reported a "loud boom" around 8 p.m. It was described like a "mortar round" and an "explosion" with a short vibration.
Tucker says the sound was most likely a sonic boom. She said a seismologist ruled out the possibility of an earthquake because there wasn't any seismic activity in the area on Tuesday night.
Tucker says she also checked with the local quarries this and there wasn't any blasting that went on Tuesday night.
