AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) - Barton Chapel Elementary School was placed on soft lockdown Monday morning after a gun scare.

Officials said a woman taking her child to daycare spotted a boy walking down Barton Chapel Road holding a gun at his side.

She said the boy realized she had spotted him and threw the gun into some bushes and went to school.

The school was placed on soft lockdown while authorities searched.

The gun was recovered and it turns out it was a BB gun. Officials say the BB gun never made it to campus and the lockdown was lifted.

Officials said it was an 11-year-old male student carrying the gun.
