Local wounded warrior honored with Purple Heart

FT. GORDON, GA (WRDW) -- A local service member receives a Purple Heart this morning for his service in Afghanistan.

Spc. Joshua Cleveland was awarded a Purple Heart this morning in a ceremony at Ft. Gordon.

As part of the Warrior Transition Battalion, Cleveland was wounded during action while in Afghanistan. Cleveland was the gunner during an ambush when the vehicle he was in, was hit by a rocket propelled grenade, and an IED detonated at the back of the vehicle.

Cleveland suffered from a brain injury and dislocated shoulder.
