AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- Georgia Regents University Augusta is celebrating its one-year anniversary with cake and cupcakes.

It's been exactly one year since Augusta State University and Georgia Health Sciences University merged to become GRU Augusta.

President Dr. Ricardo Azziz cut the cake, joined by other leaders at the university. Special cupcakes marking the anniversary were passed out to students, faculty and staff.

"I am excited to celebrate this important milestone in the history of our institution and look forward to building on the past year's successes and achievements in the years to come," Azziz said in a release.
