COLUMBIA COUNTY, Ga. (WRDW) -- The office of Columbia County Superior Court Judge James Blanchard raised the most in the legal organization per capita category in a statewide food drive.
The office collected the equivalent of 5,062 pounds of food per person for the 2014 Legal Food Frenzy.
In a release, Attorney General Sam Olens said, "Congratulations to Judge Blanchard and his office, all of the 2014 Georgia Legal Frenzy winners, and everyone who participated in this year’s competition. Georgia’s legal community has once again answered the call to help Georgians struggling with hunger, not only meeting but exceeding our goal of one million pounds. I am deeply grateful to the Young Lawyers Division of the State Bar for their leadership and commitment to the Legal Food Frenzy and to our seven regional food banks that serve less fortunate Georgians every day."
Olens said that the competition overall raised the equivalent of 1,140,627 pound of food. Since 2012, the fundraiser has collected 2.5 million pounds. All the donations go to regional food banks, such as the Golden Harvest Food Bank in Augusta.
