GROVETOWN, Ga. (WRDW) -- When you're looking to buy a house or find a place to raise your kids, one of the first questions you ask is what the crime is like.

"I feel pretty safe," Seth Straughn said.

Straughn lives in Grovetown, the fifth safest city in Georgia according to a recent real estate blog ranking.

"I've got three small children so I am not going to leave my door unlocked at night and things like that, but if I had to leave the door unlocked during the day, I wouldn't freak out or anything like that. I think it's a pretty safe place to live," he said.

Straughn says safety is also the key to attracting new business and growth Cyber Command is bringing .

"We are pretty close to Fort Gordon, so that brings a lot of revenue and a lot of folks and new construction to the area," recent homeowner Megan Tingen said.

New subdivisions like the one the Tingens now call home are popping up everywhere in Grovetown, fueled by the low crime rate and all the space the city offers.

"Growing. Every time we go to the grocery store, it seems like another development. It could be anything from apartment complexes, to restaurants and businesses," she said.

The real estate blog looks at violent crimes, and property crimes to come up with its rankings, and Grovetown is the only one from our area to make the top ten. In fact, it's the only local city on the list.

"To be honest with you, in comparison to surrounding counties, I believe Grovetown is right where you need to be,"Straughn said.

So, the city with room to grow seems to be the place to go.

Grovetown actually claimed the 5th spot on the list. The majority of the top ten are metro Atlanta suburbs.
