BELVEDERE, S.C. (WRDW) -- A local high school student spent 70 days of his senior semester in the hospital, graduated on time and died one year later.

James W. (J.W.) Taylor died at Georgia Regents Medical Center on June 16.

Taylor, 21, had a spinal disease that pushed him to prove his courage, perseverance and determination on News 12 in 2013. The North Augusta High School student kept up with his schoolwork and walked across the stage as a senior.

"Don't give up. Don't give up because you can get through it," Taylor said last year.

J.W. Taylor:

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on June 18 from 7 to 9 p.m.
