Local Walmart looking to beat competitor, raise money for charity

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- A Walmart store manager is out on bail, but $1,000 short and is looking for more money.

Rodney Baker volunteered to be Saran wrapped to a pole in front of Walmart with a set bail of $5,000 to raise money for the Children’s Miracle Network Campaign.

Walmart on Wrightsboro Road is trying to beat a Pell City, Ala. Walmart during the 41-day Children’s Miracle Network Campaign taking place at 15 Walmarts and Sam’s Clubs, a release said.

The Wrightsboro Road location has already raised $41,000 for the Children’s Hospital of Georgia and must beat the Pell City location to win an extra $10,000 for the campaign.

“I love it. It’s going to get him out of our hair for the day, and it’s for the kids. It’s a win-win situation,” co-manager Nikki Hutto said.

Baker raised $4,000 Friday before leaving his post.
