(WRDW)--It's all part of the Girls on the Run program, which is run through the Boys and Girls Club of the CSRA.
It's a curriculum for 3rd through 5th grade girls that promotes confidence, team spirit and mixes in running to help them learn about staying healthy.
To celebrate the completion of their program this semester, they're celebrating by participating in the "Run Your Buns Off" 5K, which is also hosted by the CSRA Boys and Girls Club.
Now, each girl needs a running buddy to encourage her as she crosses the finish line.
"A lot of the girls have never run ever in their lives...especially not a 5K. So, in doing this run it can be a little intimidating and so the role of the running buddies is to really come in and to encourage the girls along that route," explained Stephani Shepherd, the teen program coordinator for the CSRA Boys and Girls Club.
Anyone can be a running buddy as long as they're 18 and older and when signing up, buddies have to pass a background check in order to be matched up.
It's $15 to register to be a buddy and registration is open until Monday, April 23.
The 5-K is Saturday, April 26 and if you just want to participate in the 5K, registration is $20.
