Local football legend Luther Welsh has been airlifted to an Augusta hospital for an unknown medical condition. (WRDW-TV / July 13, 2011)

THOMSON -- Thomson High School confirms that legendary football coach Luther Welsh has been airlifted to an Augusta hospital for an unknown medical condition. His condition is not known at this time.

Welsh spent parts of seven decades as a coach, winding them up at Thomson High School. He won 323 games in 43 seasons, and brought three state championships and 11 region titles to Thomson in 18 years. Milan Turner replaced the football legend.

Welsh's wife died last week.
