AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- Tuesday is the last day to make sure all those presents are under your tree. Many stores close early Tuesday night, starting at 6pm.

Last minute shoppers started early Tuesday and crowded the stores all day long.

Shopper Sheila Combs started at 5:45 a.m. With less than 24 hours til Christmas, Combs had quite a bit of shopping to do.

"I started it about a few hours ago. I'm one of those last minute shoppers so I don't go out early and shop all the time," she said.

With three boys to shop for she headed to Toys R Us, taking advantage of their 24 hour a day store hours.

"I usually come to Toys R Us every year when they do the 24 hour thing because I don't like crowds. I work in retail so me and crowds don't mix," Combs said.

In just 30 minutes she had it all. "The little skee ball table, the hockey table. My other boy is into like firefighters, police officers," explained Combs.

As the sun rose, the stores got busier and the lines got longer.

"We stay open til 10 so those last couple of hours it's crazy," said K-Mart manager Laura Hawes.

She said it's been a slow shopping season, but the past few days it's picked up.

"Last Thursday was a busy, busy, busy one, but yesterday awesome and today we are expecting a bigger, bigger day," explained Hawes.

Shopper Barbara Garnett made her last minute purchases for her son.

"Got some little gadgets, little bugs, little hex bugs, little scientific things. That's what he likes to play with," Garnett said.

She said she doesn't like the lines, but has a good reason for waiting til the end.

"I kinda wait til the last minute so I can catch some sales," she said.

With Kmart open until 10 p.m., you still have time to get those last minute presents under the tree, but Hawes offers some advice.

"Be patient because everything's picked over, but just be patient," Hawes said.

K-Mart says their biggest item this year has been electronics and mainly tablets.
