ATLANTA (AP) -- An executive at the Susan G. Komen for the Cure breast-cancer charity is leaving, after a dispute over whether the group should give funding to Planned Parenthood.

In a letter, Karen Handel says she's "deeply disappointed" by what she calls the "gross mischaracterizations" of the decision to cut off the funding.

She says she supported the move, but that it was approved by other top officials there. The decision to stop supporting Planned Parenthood was reversed after a flood of outrage over it.

Komen Founder and CEO Nancy G. Brinker says she has accepted Handel's resignation and wishes her well.

Komen hired Handel as vice president for public policy last year after losing a gubernatorial campaign in Georgia in which she stressed her anti-abortion views and frequently denounced Planned Parenthood.
