AUGUSTA, Ga. -- The man investigators say kidnapped and carjacked an Augusta woman and her 2-year-old daughter made his first court appearance Friday morning.
Leonard Sapp's charges were too advanced for the magistrate court judge to decide bond, so the case was deferred to superior court. Sapp was taken back into custody.
News 12's reporter in the courtroom says Sapp did not appear to be too shaken and was seen waving and smiling to his family members as he left.
Sapp is charged with two counts of kidnapping, one count of carjacking, one count of possession of a knife during the commission of a crime and criminal rape.
Investigators say Sapp forced Ashley Nay and her 2-year-old daughter to drive away with him at knifepoint. Nay was able to pull into a driveway in the Hicks Street area and yell for help. A neighbor pulled Nay's daughter from the car and Nay was able to escape.
