AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Layoffs are coming to Georgia Health Sciences University due to budget cuts.
GHSU President Dr. Ricardo Azziz sent an email to employees earlier this week saying that six people will lose their jobs, three other positions will be eliminated through retirements and 20 vacant positions will remain unfilled.
Azziz says the cuts most likely won't end there, either.
Another 2 percent reduction in state funding is believed to be on the way. Azziz says the job cuts are not related to the consolidation of GHSU and Augusta State University. He says it is solely a funding issue.
