UPDATE: Funeral arrangements set for major in Jefferson Co.

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ga. (WRDW) -- Funeral arrangements have been set for Maj. Charles A. Gibbons with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.

The visitation will be held at Garrer Funeral Home on Beech Street in Louisville on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until 8:30 p.m.

The funeral will be held at the Stone Springfield A.M.E. Church on Ga. Hwy. 296 (near the intersection of Ga. Hwy. 88) in Stapleton, Ga., on Thursday at 11 a.m. Law enforcement officers are encouraged to be at the church by 10 a.m.

Burial will follow at the "Sugar Hill" Cemetery on Zebina Road.

JEFFERSON COUNTY, S.C. (WRDW) -- A major in the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office died Saturday morning.

The coroner says 61-year-old Charles Gibbons died from cardiac arrest.

A lieutenant with the Sheriff's Office says Gibbons had been with the department since January of 1993.

He was an active-duty deputy and was at work just a day before his death.

Funeral arrangements have not been set at this time.
