AUGUSTA, Ga. -- The 19-year-old inmate involved in a fight at the Youth Development Campus in Augusta has died from his injuries.

Richmond County Coroner Grover Tuten confirmed Jade Holder passed away at a local hospital. He had been in the ICU since after the fight. Holder is from Sylvester, Ga., and was serving time for several charges, including attempted burglary and theft by taking.

Meanwhile, the YDC remains under lockdown, due to an order issued by the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice following the incident Monday night. The DJJ has confirmed the Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been called in to investigate any criminal wrongdoing.

This all happened in unit 43, where 15 to 20 inmates are being held. All of the inmates in that unit, along with any employees and guards who were near the incident, are being questioned by the GBI. GBI agents say they do not believe a weapon was used to beat Holder at this time.

Sources tell us Coreon Jackson, who was convicted of murder as a 12-year-old, is also in that unit and was questioned as a part of this investigation. Jackson admitted to killing 65-year-old Roosevelt Cowins in 2008.

The GBI has also contacted District Attorney Ashley Wright to make her aware of the incident.

The statement from the DJJ says, "Should there be any evidence of staff or youth misconduct or criminal activity, DJJ will take appropriate measures including referrals for criminal prosecution. Additional precautionary measures are being used to ensure the safety for the youth and staff."

All this information comes to News 12 just one day after Governor Nathan Deal removed the Department of Juvenile Justice Commissioner Amy Howell, assigning her somewhere else. Howell served as DJJ Commissioner for nine months.
