AIKEN, S.C. (WRDW)—A major intersection along Whiskey Road is on the road toward improvement.
Dougherty Road and Whiskey Road has been a major point of emphasis over the past few years for expansion and it continues to be now.
After many complaints from people living down in residential areas along Dougherty Road, City Council is moving forward with a plan to help ease congestion in the area. Council says South Carolina DOT has reviewed and approved final plans and now they plan to move forward.
The plan would add a second right hand turn lane on Dougherty Road which would turn onto Whiskey Road. The main problem for many drivers is that turn.
“Oh it's wild,” said Vanity Jones, “There's not as many accidents but can be backed up all the time.”
The cost would total out to about $1.2 million but City Council says that $900,000 of it will be footed by the state. No word on when construction may begin.
