UPDATE: Augusta house fire sends 1 to hospital

Monday, Aug. 27, 2012

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- One person is in the hospital morning after being pulled from a house fire Sunday morning.

The fire happened on the 3000 block of Sutton Place shortly before 3 a.m.

Lt. Neal Brown says couple's neighbor, John Paul Foote, looked out his window and saw flames in the carport. He ran across the street and started beating on their doors.

Michael Fields came out of the home and yelled for his wife to follow him. They could hear her saying, "Wait a minute." Ultimately, they yelled to her to stay by the bedroom window.

Foote made repeated attempts to reach her but was pushed back by smoke and flames.

Fields' wife is hospitalized and is said to be in critical condition.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
