MCCORMICK, S.C. (WRDW) -- Cars were lined up and down the street in the town of McCormick earlier Monday morning.

Family and friends, stood watch as investigators find out what happened here at 503 Pine Street Extension.

"The fire department got the call at 7:03 this morning for a structure fire," said Chris Doolittle, assistant coroner with McCormick County.

He arrived shortly after, to see flames shooting from the roof and firefighters working to contain the blaze. It took them almost an hour to get it under control.

"As it went on, they have determined now that there was a fatality involved in this house fire and that part of it is now under investigation," he said.

Hours later, SLED arrived, going inside the home to take a closer look. On the outside, neighbors of the victim say they think there's more to the story.

News 12 asked the assistant coroner if there was any foul play involved separate from the fire.

"At this point, we can't confirm any of that, the cause of the fire, and the cause of the fatality," said Doolittle.

Neighbors on the scene say there's not much that happens on the street, so today's fire and fatality are a complete shock. Especially for the family of the vicitm.

"At this point, we're not releasing any names, due to notifying the family first," he said.
