AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- News 12 has an update on the Hyde Park relocation process. The homeowners in the first phase of the move are looking for new homes. There's more red tape, like inspections and appraisals, before they're able to move.

Leaders for Housing and Urban Development say they're trying to get people out as fast as they can.

Hyde Park resident Joanne Jones is on the move.

"I'm going to turn in my paperwork," Jones said.

She just turned in the purchase and sale agreement for her brother Clayton Herrington -- it's for their new home.

He owns their old home in Hyde Park.

"We're about to leave the nest. My family has been out in Hyde Park for 65 years," she said.

Jones and her family have led the fight for years to be relocated from the flood-prone area. The city is buying up the property to build a detention pond.

Jones could be the first homeowner to move out. She took us on a ride to see her family's new dream home.

"We fell in love with it, once I seen the glow on his face, it brightened my heart," Jones said.

The old house is made of wood, but this one is brick. The yards look quite different, but the bedrooms and overall size is basically the same. It's costing more than $84,000.

"He's getting almost the equivalent of the old house," she said.

"I'm moving fast as I can. All 15 that I have know their comp information," said HUD Executive Director Chester Wheeler.

Wheeler says five families who own their property are one step closer.

As for Mrs. Jones, she says the years of waiting have been worth it.
