AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) - Helen Blocker-Adams has officially withdrawn her name as a candidate for the office of Mayor of the City, effective immediately.
Elections officials say any votes cast for a withdrawn candidate are considered null and will not be counted. This includes any votes cast during advanced voting and any votes that were cast by mail.
Re-votes are not allowed. Notices will be placed in each precinct on Election Day to inform voters of the withdrawal.
Last week, news about unpaid loans, foreclosures, and near evictions mounted against her campaign.
The Board of Elections says more than 6,600 people voted early in the Augusta Primary. With nearly 2,000 voting Friday, the last day of early voting.
Blocker-Adams made the original announcement that she was suspending her campaign on Thursday.
