AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- The hearing for a 16-year-old inmate at the Augusta Youth Development Campus has been put on hold.
The juvenile is accused of beating a fellow inmate at the YDC back in December.
The inmate will have to get a psychological evaluation first. The plan is to get the evaluation completed and back on the trial calendar within three weeks. The case will be moved to a superior court.
A 15-year-old male inmate was injured in the fight and sent to the hospital.
After the fight, the YDC was put on lockdown and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was called in to investigate.
This isn't the first time the YDC has been in the spotlight. The beating death of 19-year-old inmate Jade Holder in 2011 prompted the firing of facility director John Brady. Ronald Brawner was then named director but was fired in October after five inmates escaped from the facility. Interim Director Melvin Womble was fired after the most recent assault in December.
