AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- The Hazmat team was called to the federal courthouse in Augusta after a suspicious envelope was reported on Friday.

The building at the corner of 8th and Telfair streets was locked down but not evacuated.

The Augusta-Richmond County Fire Department determined the threat was not significant enough to inform the surrounding area.

School leaders at the Immaculate Conception Catholic School across the street showed some concern after not being notified.

News 12 spoke with an FBI representative on Friday afternoon, who said the envelope was sent to the federal courthouse by an inmate.

The envelope contents came back negative, but the contents are still being sent to the lab for further investigation.
