Hammond Hill Elementary named in 2013 Palmetto’s Finest Schools

NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. (WRDW) -- A local school has been named as one of the state's finest.

The S.C. Association of School Administrators named the five winning schools, which includes Aiken County's Hammond Hill Elementary, on Monday.

To apply for the award, each school had to submit a 20-page application and undergo two on-site visits.

From the news release:
"Hammond Hill Elementary (North Augusta, Principal Janet Vaughan) is a National Blue Ribbon School and has served the North Augusta community for over 60 years. With over 840 students, this Title One school takes pride in achieving academic excellence. Throughout the school, instructional labs such as the Mathematics Lab, Compass Lab, and Writing Lab are used to target individual student’s strengths and weaknesses. For the past four years, Hammond Hill Elementary has been awarded the highest rating of Excellent in both the Absolute Rating and the Growth Rating on the school’s report card."

The other schools named:

  • Ashley Ridge High, Dorchester District Two
  • Fort Dorchester Elementary, Dorchester District Two
  • Hanahan Middle, Berkeley County Schools
  • Marrington Middle School of the Arts, Berkeley County Schools
