COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley is finally making it official that she is running for re-election next year.
Haley campaign spokesman Rob Godfrey said Monday that the governor will make her official announcement Aug. 26 during a rally and fundraiser in Greenville with three other Republican governors.
The announcement sets up a likely rematch of the 2010 governor's race, when Haley got 51 percent of the vote and beat Democratic state Sen. Vincent Sheheen of Camden, who received 47 percent.
Haley's campaign will tout job growth and a drop in the state's unemployment rate.
Sheheen is already highlighting what he says are missteps by the governor in handling the hacking of state tax data and a tuberculosis outbreak at a Greenwood County school.
