Augusta,Ga (WRDW)----A local non-profit is asking for a share of profits from a recent gun auction by the Richmond County Sheriff's office.

Hundred of guns were auctioned off last month and are heading to Austin, Texas. The group Future Successors is asking commissioners for 10 percent of the proceeds, since they helped donate dozens of guns.

1,400 hundred hunting rifles, vintage handguns and pistols were recently auctioned off by the Richmond County Sheriff's office.
You couldn't buy just one and dozens of gun dealers bid on the whole collection.

The highest bid, totaling more than $300,000 came from company in Texas.
We're told the money goes straight into county coffers, but now one non-profit wants a piece of the pie.

"We collected sixty two guns," said Future Successors Director Niki Watson.

Watson is the director of future successors, a group that teaches kids about life skills during the summer. She's asking commissioners for 10% of the money received for the guns which comes to $30,000.

"We came here asking for proceeds from a local gun auction that was developed here last month. We supplied guns and we want some money to come to our organization," said Watson.

She says the money could be used to expand the program to six weeks, as well as add gun control safety to the course.

"We spend countless hours organizing events with parents. We do financial workshops throughout out the year," said

Regardless of what commissioners decide, the county will get the money first. City leaders plan to get with the Sheriff's Office to determine how the money can legally be spent.
