Georgia's Army National Guard to welcome home local soldiers

ELBERTON, Ga. (WRDW) -- Two of the four deployed units headed home Saturday from Afghanistan are from the CSRA, a Georgia Army National Guard PIO said.

C Battery is out of Waynesboro and B Battery is out of Thomson. Also, some soldiers from 1214 Forward Support Company are out of Washington, Ga.

The Georgia Army National Guard is welcoming home over 200 Guardsmen with the 1-214th Field Artillery Battalion from nearly a year in Afghanistan where they conducted base defense operations in Western Afghanistan.

The 648th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade (MEB) was activated on Oct. 1, 2007 in Columbus and is now headquartered on Fort Benning. The unit has an assigned over 1,600 Soldiers.

Georgia’s Army Guard is the eighth largest in the nation, and includes combat, combat support and combat service support units.
