FORT GORDON, Ga. (WRDW) -- Gates 2 and 3 at Fort Gordon will be closed starting 4:30 a.m. Monday until further notice due to security guards being furloughed.

Traffic will only be able to enter and exit Fort Gordon through Gates 1 and 5. Gate 1 will be open 24/7, while Gate 5 will be open from 4:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. every day.

Officials say to plan for traffic delays in the areas near Gates 1 and 5.

According to a news release from Fort Gordon, the installation will not have enough guards to keep all of the gates open, and military personnel are not allowed to be used as substitutes for civilian employees who are being furloughed.

“We regret the inconvenience that this may cause our residents and workforce as they enter and leave the installation,” said Col. Robert A. Barker, Fort Gordon garrison commander, in a news release. “We also regret the disruptions to local traffic this may create. However, while the furlough is in effect, we have no alternative to closing these gates. We will return to normal gate operating policies as soon as possible.”
