Funerals planned; survivor and witness recount horror

Tuesday, July 24, 2012

AURORA, Colo. (AP) -- Family members of the victims of Friday's movie theater shooting in Colorado are planning funerals.

A full military funeral and burial are planned next week in Reno, Nev., for Jonathan Blunk. The 26-year-old served three tours in the Middle East, and planned to re-enlist with the goal of becoming a Navy SEAL.

A service for 18-year-old A.J. Boik is scheduled Friday in Aurora.

Meanwhile, additional details of the shooting are emerging from a witness and a wounded theatergoer.

Stephanie Davies and Allie Young, who were at the movie together, say the gunman moved around the theater, yelling and seemingly targeting people.

Davies, who is 21, says the shooter would shout, "What are you doing? I said stand up!" She says he would then pick people up and shoot them.

Her 19-year-old friend was shot in the neck, damaging her carotid artery and knocking her into the aisle. Davies says she applied pressure to the wound and also managed to call 911.

She says, "We were laying there in the mouth of hell -- there's smoke and explosions and guns, bats flying across the screen because the movie's still playing. It's dark." She called it "every child's worst nightmare."
