AIKEN, S.C. (WRDW) -- Funeral arrangements have been set for a high school student who died unexpectedly from an infection over the weekend.
Tanner Lewis was a senior at Midland Valley High School.
Lewis' funeral will be held on Thursday at 4 p.m. at the Hatcher Funeral Home Chapel on Jefferson Davis Highway. Internment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Graniteville.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials are made to Boy Scout Troop 351, P.O. 326, Langley, SC 29834.
The funeral home website says the family will be receiving friends at the home of Alda and Jimmie Coleman at 102 Forest Drive in North Augusta.
Tanner's obituary published on the Hatcher Funeral Home website:
"Tanner Nolan Lewis was born on August 10th, 1995 and left us on March 31st, 2013.
Tanner was a senior at Midland Valley High School and he was a member of the Academic Team. Tanner was the first student in Midland Valley history to be accepted to Duke University, Class of 2017.
Tanner was a member of Boy Scout Troop 351 in Langley, SC. Tanner rose through the ranks and attained the rank of Eagle Scout in June of 2012. This is the highest rank in Scouting and only 4 % of Boy Scouts ever achieve this rank.
Tanner loved politics and had aspirations of becoming a lawyer and future governor of South Carolina. Tanner enjoyed debating his conservative values, principles and political views with anyone.
Tanner is survived by his mother, Donna, his father, David, his brothers Logan and Jamie, all of Aiken; his maternal grandparents, Alda and Jimmy Coleman, Clearwater, SC; his paternal grandmother, Evelyn L. Lewis, Clearfield, Pennsylvania; a number of aunts, uncles, cousins, scouts and his high school friends, especially “The Three Little Girls”, Makayla, Laila and Emily Busbee."
