FORT GORDON (WRDW) -- Fort Gordon released a statement today showing its support for the pending end of the government shutdown.
"At Fort Gordon, we're very pleased to see the end of the shutdown. Although virtually all of our workforce had already returned to work under the provisions of the Pay Our Military Act, we were still unable to operate normally during the shutdown due to a lack of available funding.
We are also glad that our employees who were furloughed during the shutdown will receive back pay. This has been a difficult year for many members of our civilian workforce, and back pay will help reduce some of the financial hardship they faced.
Last, we're grateful for the tremendous support from our local communities for our service members, families and employees during the shutdown. Fort Gordon is indeed lucky to be situated among friends."
