AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW) -- "It will mean a lot to this community right here," said Shakela Jones.
The thoughts of many now that former nightclub DiLussa Lounge is becoming Provisions Christian Lounge -- a lounge for Christians and non-Christians to have some good, clean fun.
"One of the things that God was laying on my heart concerning our young people is that they need a place to go where they don't have to constantly look behind their backs while they are enjoying themselves," said James Abraham, pastor of Bethlehem Baptist Church and manager of the new lounge.
Before it was DiLussa Lounge, it was popular nightclub, Club 5150, which was shut down after two women were shot and one was killed there back in September of 2011.
Now, Abraham says it will be used to bring positivity to this area of Augusta.
"With all the shooting and all the gang-banging -- what we're doing, it's a total switch," Abraham said.
A switch create a space dedicated to giving young people and anyone else who wants to join, a safe place to party.
"We're having Christian drama," Abraham said. "Also, we're looking to have spoken word poetry and Christian karaoke."
"It feels wonderful to me," Jones said.
Jones, 19, is a member of Abraham's church and says this place is exactly what the community needs.
"This is a move that I was looking forward to in the community," Jones said. "Not only in the Augusta area but everywhere, because it's needed for our young people."
And although it's a Christian lounge, everyone is welcome.
"It's for everybody," Abraham said. "And we want everybody to be able to come in and enjoy Jesus with us."
Provisions Christian Lounge is at 2864 Deans Bridge Road in Augusta.
