MARTINEZ, Ga. (WRDW) -- A former Richmond County commissioner told deputies he didn't pay at a local CVS because there was a long line, according to a report.
On Christmas Eve afternoon, the incident report states, Bill Hiers walked out of the CVS on Old Petersburg Road with items hidden in his pockets.
Store employees said they stopped Hiers at the door, and waited for deputies to arrive.
According to the report, Hiers told the investigator he had planned to pay for the items but didn't because there was a long line at the cash register.
Hiers was charged with shoplifting.
Hiers was a Richmond County commissioner from 1979-1982.
He twice faced drug charges in the 2000's, but each time, those charges were dropped.
